Glendalough The Leaving Certificate Geography Field Trip took place in glorious spring sunshine on Monday 4th April 2005. A group of twenty students travelled with geography teachers Ms C. Doyle and Mr C. Henry to Glendalough, Co. Wicklow, to undertake a river study. This involved a study of the erosional processes of a section of the Lugduff Brook, that feeds into the Lower Lake. With the help of the tutors and the use of the equipment from the Educational Centre students measured at two different points: (1) the speed and discharge of the channel (2) the cross sectioned slope of the vally side (3) they also analysed the geology of the bedload at the upper and lower sections of the stream
Although always undertakern as an option by the students of St.Paul's, fieldwork is now a compulsory section of the New Leaving Certificate Geography Programme to be examined for the first time in 2006. Students will present and analyse their findings at a later date and submit their completed projects to the department of Education and Science prior to the Written Examination.
