CERT: Go Places in Tourism Road show

Wednesday 17th October 2001

A group of 15 Senior cycle students from St. Pauls, who, along with their Careers' Teacher, Ms Cawley-Walsh, traveled to Tullamore to attend a Road show organised by CERT (an organisation established by the government to co-ordinate education, recruitment and training for tourism).

The Road show was held in the Tullamore Court Hotel and it was designed to appeal to Senior second level students and provide them with all the information they need in deciding on a career in the tourism and hospitality industry.

The event was participative, informative and interesting. On arrival, each student received an information gift pack and the format was laid out as follows:

- Welcome and introductions

- Restaurant and cooking demonstrations

- Career discussions throughout demonstrations

- Presentation on courses available and career progression in areas such as tourism, hospitality, travel accommodation, etc.

- Refreshments.

Students from St. Paul's asked questions and participated in a cocktail-tasting section, which were made from a selection of non-alcoholic ingredients.

Representatives from CERT commented on how well behaved and mannerly our students were on the day. This group enjoyed the programme and proved to be good ambassadors for their school.
