October 2004 saw the official launch of the Astronomy Club.

As a runner-up there were articles referring to the sights worth viewing in the sky on the notice board.

The first group of enthusiastic students (see photo) took a trip during Science Week to Maynooth. Mr. Dikker, Mr. Ferry and Mr. Marron took them to the observatory, where they could have a look at the Andromeda Nebula.

Afterwards the group had a good look around the Science Exhibition and they could do some hands-on work there.

On the computers in the computer room at St. Paul’s there is a programme that shows the sky and the planets and stars in Real Time. This programme will be available to any student who is interested in having it on their home computer. You can go forward and back in time, or choose a different location on Earth to view the sky. Or you can pinpoint any constellation or any of the planets with a click of the mouse.
