Aims of the school

The aim of the school is to assist the pupils, in their efforts to reach their full potential intellectually, socially and spiritually.

The school endeavours to inculcate attitudes in young people which reflect respect for themselves, for each other and for authority. Importance is given to developing active concern for people, property, personal health and the environment. In-built structures and procedures in the daily life of the school offer pupils opportunities to develop personal initiative and responsibility together with a questioning mind which will help them to assess, with a critical eye, the many and varied values of the world that they live in today. In school they also learn the importance of personal commitment, punctuality, regular attendance, planning for the future and working as a team.

In striving to realise these aims for its pupils the school believes that everything, if it is to have true meaning, must be based on a solid spiritual foundation and a deepening and growing faith.

St.Paul's school's Special Character and Tradition

Although barely thirty years in existence, St.Paul's  Secondary School has its own tradition of which it is extremely proud.

Over time, it has grown to become a school of the community for the community. It is, in fact, the natural extension of the family, where brothers and sisters, relations and neighbours work and share together. That, in itself, gives pupils and their parents a sense of comfort and security, especially in the times that we are living in today, it is good to know where our children are, who their friends are and that they are safe. In the environment of the parish school boys and girls develop respect towards one another, enabling them to grow into well balanced and well adjusted men and women.

AFTER SECONDARY SCHOOL:

Over the years thousands of St.Paul's pupils, having completed their second level, moved on to further studies at University, Training College or other Third Level Institutes in Ireland (North and South), Britain, U.S.A., Australia and elsewhere. Many have reached the top in their chosen profession, including medicine, construction, chemistry, pharmacy, engineering, science, teaching, computers, nursing, business and more. Some have successfully set up their own business, while apprenticeships have been the chosen path of others.

A HEALTHY MIND IN A HEALTHY BODY:

Health and fitness go together with intellectual development, in helping the young person become a fully rounded and content individual. Increasingly, the school has put more and more time, effort and planning into the promotion of healthy living and the formation of good habits. Physical Education is on the timetable for everyone and the programme includes activities to suit all tastes and abilities. Pupils have always been encouraged to become involved in school teams. Notable successes at county, National and International levels, have been recorded in football, basketball, chess and in a wide range of extra curricular activities, such as the Young Scientist Competition.

SPIRITUAL BASE:

Since the beginning, St.Paul's Secondary School has had a meaningful spiritual base to its life and work. This faith tradition was, in fact, laid in The Convent of Mercy Secondary Top, which was the forerunner to St.Paul's. Over the years the school was blessed with having several dedicated and highly motivated teachers, Sisters and lay people, in the R.E. department, along with a sympathetic caring Chaplain and a supportive manager.

THE FUTURE:

A rich tradition is a treasure. St.Paul's Secondary School will continue to promote the important values that have been handed down. In spite of the many problems and the confusion in life today, the school has every intention of moving forward, with confidence in the goodness of young people and in faith in the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
